On Saturday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m., there’s a night hike and campfire. Come to the park, take a walk by the light of the moon and make new friends around the fire. Bring chairs and warm clothing.
Whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, there will be a moderate hike at the park on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
Join for a hike on Monday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. and learn about past presidents and their connections to trees. Nearly everyone knows about George Washington and the cherry tree. Less commonly known is Theodore Roosevelt was a conservationist who would not allow a Christmas tree at the White House.
On Sunday, March 9 at 1:30 p.m., there will be a hike to explore the geologic history of the park. Examine rocks, glacial sediments and learn about the recent erosion history of the gorge. The discussion will include ancient seas, ice ages, the stream dynamics of Rathburn Run and past human uses in the park.
All theses hikes will begin and end at the education parking lot. Registration is not required, though groups are asked to call the Wooster Community Center ahead of time at 330-263-5207.
For these and other park events, children must be accompanied by an adult and all dogs on a leash. Hiking events are open to the public, created by the Friends of Wooster Memorial Park volunteers and sponsored by Wooster Recreation.
