WWII recognition event Sept. 19 at Greystone
The Wayne County Veterans Service Commission will host the WWII Recognition and Remembrance Gala on Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Greystone Event Center, 50 Riffle Road, Wooster.
This gala is dedicated to honoring the World War II veterans who are still alive and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war. WWII remains the deadliest conflict in history, and the event's goal is to pay tribute to these heroes in the most respectful and meaningful way possible.
The celebration will be led by the Wayne County Veterans Service Commission but not without the support of various community members. Local Wayne County veterans have been invited, recognizing their role and the bond they share with their WWII counterparts.
The event will include the following:
—555th Honors Detachment providing a welcome for WWII veterans including side boys at the entrance and a formal presentation of colors.
—Jille Burke delivering the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
—Lunch provided by Village Catering.
—William Rickett presenting the keynote address.
Invitations to WWII veterans were hand-delivered by commissioner Charles Dudley, and invitations to Wayne County veterans also were posted and emailed.
Wayne County veterans are encouraged to confirm their attendance by Sept. 12. Call or email the agency to RSVP at 330-345-6638 or sporter@waynecountyveterans.org. Confirmation of a registration is essential to secure placement at a table.
