050211 Wooster to revamp curbside recycling program
Summary: Changes to the City of Woosters curbside recycling program are expected to get more residents actively involved in recycling.
City of Wooster officials took the occasion of the Scarlet, Gray and Green Fair at OARDC to introduce its new curbside recycling plan to the public.
According to Waste Managements Public Sector Services Representative Susan Lent the citys recycling program will take on a new flavor when the program is revamped this summer.
Starting July 1, the now familiar blue recycling bags will be a thing of the past as the city transitions to curbside recycling bins.
In addition to saving residents the cost of purchasing the blue recycling bags, residents will note that the new program has the added benefit of accepting recyclable materials the current system does not accept.
The new list of materials to be included in the program includes flattened cardboard, magazines, office paper, brown paper bags, newspapers, paperboard products such as food packaging, paperboard dairy and juice containers, junk mail, plastic bottles, glass bottles, glass jars, aluminum cans, tin cans and steel cans.
According to Lent, in late June an 18 gallon recycling bin and a list of items that will be accepted for recycling will be delivered to each residential home in Wooster.
According to Lent come July 1 residents can simply toss their recyclables into the bind without sorting them by the type of material to be recycled.
Residents will be asked to place their recycle bin 10 feet away from their trash on their normal trash pickup day.
According to Wooster City Planner Rebecca Leitschuh, as the city gets closer to rolling out the new program details on the new curbside recycling program will be posted on the citys web site at www.woosteroh.com.
