Summary: From alpacas, angora rabbits and sheep to beautiful handmade sweaters, purses and rugs, the 16th annual Great Lakes Fiber Show had everything a fiber lover could ever ask for.
For anyone who loves all things fiber – from raw wool to finished sweaters made from hand dyed yarn – the 16th annual Great Lakes Fiber Show was the place to be Memorial Day weekend.
Held annually at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, this popular event brings together everyone from fiber artists to breeders who raise the alpacas, sheep and rabbits the fibers come from in one unique show.
Over 90 vendors from across the Midwest and as far away as Wisconsin and South Carolina showcased virtually everything a fiber artist might need from spinning wheels, looms, processed wool and raw wool to knitting supplies and hand dyed yarns.
The fiber artists themselves showcased a wide variety of their finished products from felted purses and knit sweaters to rugs and dolls.
Adults alike had an opportunity to try their hand at fiber arts with workshops and classes in everything from tatting lace and dying yarn to needle felting and crocheting.
For the youngest visitors to the show there were plenty of make it take it craft projects, In addition to making their own woven key ring, wool angle and braided bracelet, budding young artists also learned how to make and use a drop spindle and how to knit without needles.
