Nowhere is that more evident than in the wide variety of displays in the Buss Hall at the Wayne County Fair.
The building, which is shared by the Art, Flower and Home Economics departments, shows that whether their tools of choice are a paint brush, a garden trowel, a kitchen spatula or a needle and thread, creativity is in abundance in Wayne County.
Wayne County residents of all ages with a passion for the visual, horticultural and culinary arts submitted works in hundreds of different categories for the consideration of panels of expert judges.
In the flower competition, in addition to submitting single stems of flowers from their gardens, competitors also had the opportunity to submit flower arrangements centered around such varied themes as Starry Night, where competitors were required to incorporate Queen Anns Lace into their arrangement, to Where the Wild Things Are, which required junior competitors to use only dried materials to interpret the theme.
Over in the art area, artists of all ages were invited to submit their best works in a wide variety of art and craft related categories ranging from painting, drawing and photographs to sculpture, pottery and woodworking.
Nearby the Home Economics Department provided culinary artists with the opportunity to showcase their cooking and baking skills. In addition to the elaborately decorated cakes, delicious candy and homemade pies and bread stood rows of canning jars containing preserved food and jelly.
For those who are handy with a needle and thread, there were displays of delicate needle work, hand knit sweaters, lovingly crafted quilts and handmade clothing.
