Summary: Teams of horses took to the track at the Wayne County Fairgrounds to see which team could pull the most weight. As the 162nd Wayne County Fair opened on September 10, horse pulling teams from throughout the Midwest converged on the track at the Wayne County Fairgrounds to compete in one of the most popular events at the fair. The teams, which were comprised of a pair of horses, were divided into weigh classes to determine which team could successfully pull the most weight. Each contestant had three opportunities to pull a sled filled with thousands of pounds of weight a distance of 27 feet in order to advance on in the competition and take on the challenge of pulling ever heavier loads. The horse pulling competition was one of dozens of contests and competitions held each year during the fair.
