Paul Money video A building that once housed the best place in Millersburg for Jo-Jos and fried chicken is coming down. The large yellow-brick building at the corner of East Jackson and South Crawford streets that was home to the convenience store known affectionately as the ‘Piggy Market’ is being demolished using a state grant through the Ohio Attorney General’s office. The grant provided funds to demolish blighted structures, with the intention of raising area property values. The funds come from a settlement from a lawsuit brought by state attorney general’s offices against national banks for unfair lending practices. The grant program is voluntary, with the building owners applying to participate. The building was something of a social hub in the 1980s and 1990s. A game room was located in the rear of the building, along with a pizzeria, and dances were also held there. Most recently, it was home to a candle and collectibles store. Demolition of the building will clear the corner lot. Earlier, a 19th-century brick house and several rentals were torn down using federal funds, also aimed at improving property values by removing blighted buildings.
