10/25/12 Mt. Eaton man dies in state Route 83 crash

                        
SUMMARY: Speed, rainy conditions may have contributed to crash A Mount Eaton man died in a Oct. 19 crash after his vehicle struck a barn. Tanner C. Stokovich, 21, 15966 East Main Street, was pronounced dead at the scene of a single vehicle crash that occurred on state Route 83 north of Millersburg. According to Holmes County Sheriff’s reports, Stokovich was driving northbound on state Route 83 in a 1994 Honda Civic when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Stokovich lost control of the car and struck the foundation of a bank barn, trapping himself and his passenger, Thomas M. Wilson, 20, Fairview Avenue, Millersburg, beneath the structure. The crash occurred at approximately 7:38 p.m. Rescuers had to first stabilize the barn structure before Stokovich and Wilson could be removed. Wilson was transported to Pomerene Hospital before being transferred to Aultman Hospital. His condition is unknown. The crash remains under investigation. Speed and rainy conditions are considered factors in the accident. Holmes Fire District 1 was assisted at the scene by East Holmes, Killbuck, Western Holmes and Prairie Township fire departments.
