SUMMARY: Babysitter faces murder, other charges A Shreve woman has been charged in Wayne County Common Pleas Court with murder in the death of a Wooster toddler. Kelly M. Kline, 33, 4599 South Firestone Road, is charged in a grand jury indictment with murder, involuntary manslaughter, two counts of endangering children and two counts of assault. The charges stem from March 28, when Kline allegedly caused injuries that led to the death of 15-month-old Ella Young. The murder charge carries 15 years to life in prison. According to Wayne County Sheriff’s reports, Ella was dropped off at Kline’s home the morning of March 28 by her parents. Kline was babysitting several children that day, with the oldest of the children being age four. Ella’s brother was among the children. At 12:30 p.m., Kline called 9-1-1 to report Ella was unresponsive and having trouble breathing. Ella was transported to Wooster Community Hospital, from where she was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital. Staff at Akron Children’s reported Ella showed signs of abuse. Ella died shortly after midnight March 29. Kline was the only adult present in the home when she called 9-1-1, according to sheriff’s reports. The indictment comes after completion of a Summit County medical examiner’s ruling, Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Lutz said. The ruling states Ella died as a result of injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, Lutz said. The charges state that the injuries may have been caused by “reckless” administration of corporal punishment. Kline is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 12.
