SUMMARY: Restaurant/gas station/convenience store expected to create 25 new jobs Construction on a new, 7,100 square foot gas station and convenience store in Millersburg could be underway by late December. Millersburg Village administrator Nate Troyer informed Millersburg Village Council Monday Nov. 12 that plans submitted for a Bell Stores gas station by Campbell Oil were approved by the planning and zoning commission Nov. 7. The gas station, to be located at 1129 South Washington Street, will include a Dairy Queen restaurant. The gas station/convenience store/restaurant are expected to create 25 new jobs, Troyer said. Troyer said Campbell Oil have a projected start date on construction of Dec. 10. “The building is prefabricated, so they can put the shell up, put the roof on and work inside throughout the winter,” Troyer said. The plans, as submitted, show eight gas pump stations under an 129 foot long awning fronting the store. The Dairy Queen and convenience store will be under the same roof, with the restaurant taking up 3,100 square feet and the store 4,030. The main point of access for the store will be off South Washington. A second point of egress is included on the design for Glen Drive on the north east corner. The gas station will stand at the old Unibuilt lot beside Burger King. Troyer said the store will hook into existing utilities. The main benefit to the village, besides the services offered through the new business, will be the new jobs, Troyer said. “Obviously, any new job creation is great for us,” Troyer said. In other business, council approved a request by Mayor Jeff Huebner to draw up a resolution rescinding a $15 license plate fee. By rescinding the fee, council makes good on a promise made in their campaign for .5 percent income tax that any new fees would be dropped should the income tax pass. The fee will be collected through 2013, and end in 2014. Council further approved a $500 rental fee for the Kelly Miller Circus to use Airport Park May 24, 2013. The fee includes water use and other utilities for the day. Trash collection will be covered through the village’s contract with waste hauler Kimble. Kimble has agreed to provide dumpsters for up to six events per year at the village. Farmers and composters will get a freebie from the circus visiting town: Manure from the circuses animals, including elephants, can be collected for free by anyone who wants it, Troyer said. The next meeting of Millersburg Village Council is scheduled for Nov. 26.
