The cause of death has yet to be determined for a Baltic woman found at the scene of a Nov. 12 automobile crash. According to Holmes County Sheriff’s reports, Melissa S. Lawson, 32, 206 N. Ray Apt. 1, was pronounced dead Monday Nov. 12 at Pomerene Hospital after she was transported from a crash site on County Road 19. The cause of death remains undetermined, as preliminary medical evidence indicates that injuries suffered by Lawson in the crash are not believed to be life-threatening, Chief Deputy Nathan Fritz said. Lawson was taken to the Stark County Coroner for autopsy. “We can’t say if it was crash related, health related, whether there was a prior event before she crashed,” Fritz said. “We don’t want to speculate. Until we get the coroner’s report, we can’t speculate what the cause of death is.” Sheriff’s reports indicate Lawson was traveling eastbound on County Road 19 in her 1996 Pontiac when she failed to negotiate a right hand curve and went off the left hand side of the road. The Pontiac struck a fence and came to rest in a small creek. Lawson is not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the the time of the crash. It appears she was ejected from the vehicle, Fritz said. The Holmes County sheriff’s office was notified of the crash at approximately midnight when a passerby came across the crash scene. Holmes Fire District #1 performed CPR on Lawson at the scene, Fritz said. Sheriff’s reports indicate that alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Lawson’s speed at the tim of crash is estimated at 20 to 28 miles pr hour.
