11/18/13 Charges filed in West Holmes Middle School bomb threat

                        
SUMMARY: Inducing panic charge filed in Holmes County Juvenile Court The Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney’s office has filed charges against a West Holmes Middle School student who allegedly made a bomb threat at school. The student, a 13-year-old male in the seventh grade, has been charged in Holmes County Juvenile Court with inducing panic, a second degree felony. The charge stems from Nov. 1, when a threat was found in a boy’s restroom at the middle school. The school was evacuated by school officials prior to deputies’ arrival at the school at approximately 11.22 a.m., according to Holmes County sheriff’s reports. The threat was left in pencil and was not specific to time/day of detonation or device location. The suspect was identified using surveillance cameras in the school. Deputies were able to identify the suspect by viewing students who entered the restroom prior to the threat being discovered. Numerous interviews were made before the suspect was identified, according to sheriff’s reports. The school was swept using bomb sniffing dogs from the Summit County Sheriff’s office. No explosive devices were identified. The middle school students were evacuated to the high school gym, where they spent the remainder of the day. The case is scheduled for an initial appearance Dec. 4. The threat was the first of two in two weeks in the West Holmes School District. A second bomb threat was made at West Holmes High School Nov. 11 and a 15-year-old male Sophomore has been identified as a suspect.
