SUMMARY: Indictment alleges defendant stole firearms, tools, electronics A Shreve man has been charged by the Holmes County grand jury in a 21 count indictment for allegedly burglarizing multiple residences and stealing firearms, tools and other items. Jason A. Mann, 35, 9743 Munson Road, is charged with six counts of grand theft of a firearm, four counts of burglary, four counts of theft, four counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of vandalism, petty theft and breaking and entering. The charges carry a total prison sentence ranging from 42 to 60 years, excluding further possible penalties for gun specifications included in the indictment. Mann is one of three codefendants suspected in at least 60 burglaries committed in Holmes County and another 50 in Coshocton County over the last three years. Co-defendants Jeremy Johnson, 31, 3416 state Route 83, Millersburg, and Lance Mann, 38, Big Prairie, were arrested previously. Johnson was indicted in Holmes County Common Pleas Court on charges of grand theft of a firearm, receiving stolen property, breaking and entering and theft. Lance Mann is facing charges in Coshocton County. According to Holmes County Sheriff’s reports, the three men stole items they could easily sell, such as tools and scrap metal. Johnson was arrested Aug. 18, when he and Mann were attempting to sell tools to a Holmes County business. The business owner suspected the tools were stolen and contacted deputies. When Johnson and Jason Mann showed up at the business, deputies were waiting. Johnson was arrested Aug. 18 but Jason Mann fled. Jason Mann eluded police until Nov. 10, when Perry Township Police caught up with him “after two or three attempts” to arrest him, Holmes County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Nathan Fritz said. According to the indictment, Jason Mann stole six firearms, tools, “safes”, power equipment, a battery charger, air compressor, hunting bows, a DVD player, tools, clothing and boots from at least three locations between July 1 and Aug. 16. Several of the burglaries occurred around Killbuck. At least one of the receiving stolen property counts stems from the Aug. 18 incident in which Johnson was arrested. Fritz said deputies were able to track down some of the stolen property and return it to the rightful owners. “Some of the property has been recovered, quite a bit of it from the latter portion” of the burglaries, Fritz said. “I’m sure there is still a lot out there we’d like to find.” Jason Mann is being held at the Holmes County Jail on a $100,000 bond. An arraignment in common pleas court has been scheduled for Nov. 30.
