A Killbuck man who allegedly drove a school bus full of kids while intoxicated pleaded not guilty to charges in Holmes County Municipal Court. Kenyon Conner, 53, 11444 Township Road 254, entered not guilty pleas Tuesday Nov. 29 to charges of endangering children and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, both first degree misdemeanors each carrying up to 180 days in jail and a fine of $1,000. The OMVI charge carries a minimum of three days in jail, a $375 fine and a minimum driver’s license suspension of six months up to a maximum of three years. The charges stem from Nov. 3, when Conner, who is a substitute bus driver for the West Holmes School District, was transporting middle school and high school students home on an afternoon bus route. The students noticed Conner behaving oddly, and used cell phones to report the behavior to their parents. At one point, a parent boarded the bus and rode along with Conner. District officials who were contacted by parents contacted Conner while driving and at first told him to finish his route. Conner was later stopped at Clark Elementary school and taken to Pomerene Hospital by a district employee. A urine sample was obtained from Conner and preliminary results from the test indicate Conner had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system to operate a motor vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wooster Post, handled the investigation. The results of a separate urine test by the patrol have not yet been completed. Municipal Court Judge Jane Irving scheduled Conner’s case for a pretrial conference Jan. 3. Irving further placed Conner under a judicial license suspension.
