SUMMARY: Faces jail time on attempted trafficking, paraphernalia charges A Killbuck man is facing jail time after he pleaded guilty Thursday Nov. 3 to drug charges. Cody S. Stokovich, 22, 42188 County Road 19, pleaded in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to attempted trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of possession of methamphetamine was dropped in exchange for Stokovich’s plea. The charges stem from a Feb. 2 raid of a state Route 241 residence by Holmes County Sheriff’s deputies. According to sheriff’s reports and Prosecuting Attorney Steve Knowling, deputies discovered 81 grams of marijuana packaged in four bags and a trace amount of methamphetamine on a mirror. A safe at the residence contained $235 cash, some of it bills that were “previously marked buy money in a (controlled) methamphetamine buy”, Knowling said. A handgun was also recovered from the residence. Stokovich was not at home at the time the search warrant was served. Stokovich’s attorney, Thomas White, said Stokovich was living at the residence with another individual and there was “some question” as to who the recovered drugs and cash belonged to. White said Stokovich was pleading because the plea offer was better than risking putting the felony charges before a jury. “We are entering...the plea because the deal is too good when weighed with the risk of going to trial,” White said. “My client is accepting the plea. If you expect him to agree with the charges, you’re not going to hear that.” Common Pleas Judge Robert D. Rinfret ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for Jan. 19.
