A Fredericksburg man who led police on a high speed motorcycle chase was sentenced in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to jail time.
Daniel A. Mast, 26, 5121 Moreland Road, was sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Robert D. Rinfret Thursday Dec. 15 to 180 days in jail on charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and driving without a license. The failure to comply charge was reduced from a felony to a first degree misdemeanor in exchange for Masts guilty plea.
The charges stem from Oct. 29, 2010, when Millersburg Police attempted to stop Mast for a speed violation while he was riding a motorcycle on state Route 241. According to court records, the chase went out of village limits north on state Route 241. As he fled from police, Mast put at least two other vehicles at risk when he passed on a double yellow line.
The chase ended when Mast lost control of the motorcycle and crashed off the road. Mast was not injured in the crash.
Mast did not have a motorcycle license at the time.
In addition to the jail time, Rinfret fined Mast $1,000 and ordered him to complete 50 hours of community service. Rinfret further suspended Masts drivers license for two years.
Also Thursday in common pleas court:
A warrant for failure to appear was issued for Louise Kuhel, 37, 615 Kennet Court NW, Canton, after she did not show for sentencing on child support charges. Kuhels last contact with the courts was a phone message left at 2 a.m. with adult probation authorities stating she was in Cincinnati looking for work.
Kuhels attorney, Bryan K. Barnard, said he attempted to contact Kuhel by mail Dec. 5.
Rinfret forwarded Kuhel case to the prosecuting attorney for possible failure to appear charges.
