Summary: Skaters brought a holiday favorite to life on the ice at the Alice Noble Ice Arena on Dec. 4. A holiday classic came to life on the ice of the Alice Noble Ice Arena on Dec. 4 when the Wooster Figure Skating Club presented the Nutcracker on Ice. Based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” by E.T.A. Hoffman and set to music as a ballet by the Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky, the Nutcracker tells the story a young girl named Clara who receives the special gift of a nutcracker from her mysterious uncle Herr Drosselmeyer. As Clara drifts off to sleep the nutcracker comes alive in her dreams, fights the evil Mouse Queen, turns into a prince and takes Clara on a wondrous trip to the Land of Sweets. Portraying Clara and the Nutcracker were Wooster Figure Skating Club members Brittani Walton and Kailee Gorczyca. Appearing as the Mouse Queen and Sugar Plum Fairy were fellow club members Olivia Wyckoff and Lauren Gwinn. Joining the members of the Wooster Figure Skating Club in the production were members of the Alice Noble Ice Arena Learn to Skate Program and special guest skaters Anya Cockerell, Chelsea Christopher, Morgan Barnett and Rachel Burgett. The presentation of the Nutcracker on Ice was the finale of an afternoon of activities at the Alice Noble Ice Arena. Before the show audience members were invited to pose for a photo with Santa and Mrs. Clause while Lori Adkins played holiday music on an electric violin. Nearby balloon artist Noah Sholl was on hand making holiday creations such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer hats and colorful red and white striped candy canes out of balloons. Young audience members also had the opportunity to try their hand at make it take it craft projects and have their holiday themed designs painted on their faces. After the show the Wooster Figure Skating Club invited audience members to take to the ice for a free public skate and a reception for the cast.
