Despite a sluggish and uncertain economy, Shearer Equipment, a full line John Deere dealer in North Central Ohio with locations in Wooster, Mansfield, Mount Vernon and Monroeville, saw a slight uptick in sales in some segments in 2010 and they even have plans for expansion. Not an easy feat for any business last year. Representatives for the company have a positive outlook for Shearer in 2011. “Shearer Equipment continues to grow. We acquired two new locations at the end of 2010,” said Tara Sheldon, Corporate Marketing Manager for the company. “The new locations are located at 3500 Copley Road in Copley and 999 Lafayette Road in Medina.” In addition to selling John Deere products and equipment, Shearer Equipment offers full service repairs, parts and maintenance on agricultural as well as lawn and garden equipment. They also maintain a complete electric shop to meet electrical servicing needs. Shearer Equipment is one of only 50 John Deere Self Propelled Forage Harvester Dealers in North America, one of only 62 John Deere Commercial Application Dealers in North America. 2010 was certainly a more successful year for the company than 2009, and the outlook for 2011 is even better. “We saw a slight increase in sales in 2010 than we did in 2009,” said Sheldon. “The effects of the economy varied based on market segment--there is also always a cyclical pattern evident during economic changes.” She explained that equipment sales may be down at times when people focus on repairing equipment that they already own, instead of purchasing something new. Conversely, parts and services may see a slight decrease when equipment sales increase. When asked to reflect on what 2011 holds for the company, Sheldon noted that one of their main goals is to, “integrate the two new locations into the Shearer Equipment family as well as offer the increased parts and sales inventory from all of our existing locations.” Additional goals include focusing on the property owner and residential market segments. “We want to make sure our customers are aware of our vast array of equipment, parts and service as well as our Stihl outdoor power equipment for farm and residential needs,” said Sheldon. The goal and hope for 2011 is to ensure a slight increase in sales as certain segments of the economy show continued growth and improvement. “We are selling the Kuhn Large Square Baler as well as serving the customer with a full line of Stihl Portable Power Equipment in all 6 locations,” Sheldon added. “We also offer parts and service for the Stihl line as well. The new high performance gator utility vehicles are also offering increased excitement for our farmers, residential customers and those sportsmen that are looking for a great way to transport gear as well as the rewards of the hunt! 2011 will also reveal a new line of the 8R series tractor,” finished Sheldon. Shearer Equipment was started in 1937 by Clark Shearer and his son Gerald Shearer in Wooster near the Wayne County Fairgrounds as an Oliver Dealer in what is known today as the old Carter Lumber building.
