SUMMARY: Faces up to eight years in prison A West Salem man pleaded no contest Monday Feb. 27 to causing an accident that claimed the life of an 11-year-old Wooster girl. Brian L. Reed, 45, 10320 Stair Road, pleaded no contest in Wayne County Common Pleas Court to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony. The charge carries up to eight years in prison. In exchange for Reed’s plea, prosecutors dropped two counts of aggravated vehicular assault. The charges stem from an Aug. 19 accident that claimed the life of Sarah Zook, 11, Wooster. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, Wooster Post, reports, Reed was southbound in a Chevy Silverado at 11:27 p.m. on County Road 301 when he struck a southbound buggy driven by Jonas H. Hostetler, 22, Homerville. Sarah, who was a passenger in the buggy, was ejected and died from her injuries. Injured in the crash were two adult passengers. Reed was not injured in the crash. Troopers investigating the crash noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Reed. Reed refused a breath-alcohol test, and troopers obtained a warrant for a blood-alcohol test. The test came back .207, about two and a half times the legal limit. Common Pleas Judge Mark K. Wiest ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for April 11.
