SUMMARY: Reed back in Wayne County after waiving extradiction hearing in Mississippi The Wayne County grand jury Friday Feb. 3 handed down charges of aggravated murder and and attempted murder stemming from two separate incidents that occurred in Wooster. Charges of aggravated murder and murder were filed against Lashaun Reed, 23, 716 Quinby Avenue, Apt. D, Wooster. The aggravated murder charge is an unclassified felony and carries a sentence of life in prison without parole. Both charges against Reed further carry firearm specifications which include an additional three years in prison. Charges of attempted murder, felonious assault with a deadly weapon and felonious assault were filed against Brian Barrington, 45, 4716 Ogden Drive, Wooster. The attempted murder charge is a first degree felony and carries up to 10 years in prison. Both Barrington and Reed are in custody of the Wayne County Sheriff and have been served with the charges, Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Lutz said. The charges against Reed stem from the Dec. 10, 2011 death of 21-year-old Clifford Johnson, of Wooster. Reed allegedly shot Johnson once in the back after a brief exchange of words in front of an East North Street residence. Johnson was taken to Wooster Community Hospital following the shooting, where he died from his injuries. Reed was arrested Jan. 24 in Greenville, Mississippi, after a manhunt that involved U.S. Marshals. Reed is being held at the Wayne County jail on a $1 million bond. Reed was booked into the Wayne County jail Feb. 4 after waiving his right to an extradition hearing in Mississippi, Lutz said. The charges against Barrington stem from a Jan. 21 assault that hospitalized his wife with numerous stab wounds. Barrington allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times while she was sleeping before leaving her for dead. The wife managed to escape their residence after Barrington got in the shower, but Barrington pursued her and stabbed her again outside. Barrington fled from the house in a Ford Taurus. Barrington ditched the Ford after he allegedly stole a truck in Massillon and fitted it with stolen license plates. Barrington was arrested Jan. 25 after Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers stopped him for speeding near St. Clairesville. Barrington is being held at the Wayne County jail on a $50,000 cash bond. The bond carries a provision barring Barrington from having contact with his wife. Reed’s case is scheduled for indictment before Common Pleas Judge Corey Spitler. Reed was out on bond at the time of the shooting after pleading guilty in Wayne County Common Pleas Court to charges of felonious assault and assault. He failed to appear for sentencing on those charges Dec. 21.
