SUMMARY: Police describe suspect as "father figure" to victim A man described as a “father figure” to a 27-year-old Orrville woman found dead in her home has been charged with murdering her. Lonnie Troy Brown, Jr., 48. 7421 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, was arrested Monday May 16 in the death of Jamie A. Hout, 27, McGill Street, Orrville. Orrville Police Chief Dino Carozza said Tuesday that Brown was arrested after forensic evidence at Hout’s residence linked him to the alleged murder. Evidence was also collected at Brown’s residence after officers executed a search warrant there at 9:35 p.m. Monday. “(Brown) was interviewed (Monday night) by our officers and the reason he was brought in was based on forensic evidence processed by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification,” Carozza said. “The fact that we were following up on all leads combined with cooperation from the community helped as well.” The search warrant was carried out while Brown was being interviewed, Carozza said, and the evidence recovered as a result of the search is being processed by Ohio BCI & I. Carozza said Brown’s relationship with Hout was one of a father figure, according to information gathered throughout the course of the investigation. “Depending on who you ask, he appears as something of a father figure to Hout,” Carozza said. “Whatever their relationship, they were acquainted with each other.” Wayne County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Lutz said Brown has been charged with murder, an unclassified felony, for the purposes of a May 26 preliminary hearing. However, Brown may “be indicted before then” on other charges, Lutz said. Carozza credited the thorough efforts of his officers, along with participating agencies, in bringing about the arrest. “I must compliment and praise our officers,” Carozza said. “Everybody on our department put in long hours, whether they worked directly on the case or additional hours patrolling the area.” Hout was found dead in her residence May 5. Outward injuries indicated the cause of death as blunt force trauma. Wayne County Coroner Amy Jolliff set Hout’s time of death at 1 a.m. May 5. An autopsy has been completed by the Summitt County Coroner’s office. Carozza declined comment on the autopsy findings. At the time, Hout was using an alias, Jamie Leigh Hout-Martinez. Brown is being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. Though an arrest has been made, Carozza encourages anyone with information to contact his office at 330-684-5025.
