5/21/14 Commissioners approve enterprise zone agreement with Pennsylvania food distributor

                        
SUMMARY: Commissioners signed a enterprise zone agreement with Dutch Valley Food Distributors for a 10 year real estate tax abatement on a new 22,000 square feet facility during their May 19 business meeting. Also May 19, commissioners opened bids on a 17,000 feet guardrail installation project. The Holmes County Commissioners approved an enterprise zone agreement with a Pennsylvania food distributor and opened bids for a 17,000 feet guardrail project at their May 19 business meeting. The enterprise zone agreement (EZ), with Dutch Valley Food Distributors, grants a 50 percent, 10 year tax abatement on a new, 22,000 square feet facility to be located on Township Road 351 in Berlin Township. Dutch Valley Food Distributors has been leasing a facility on County Road 207, Holmes County Economic Development Council executive director Tom Wilke said. In exchange for the tax abatement, Dutch Valley Food Distributors has pledged to create three new full time jobs over the next three years. The company’s current employment level in Ohio is six full time jobs and one part time job. The EZ abatement will save Dutch Valley Food Distributors an estimated $6,100 per year on real estate taxes for the life of the 10 year agreement. According to Dutch Valley Food Distributors’ EZ application, the new facility will be larger than the one currently leased on County Road 207. Dutch Valley Food Distributors is building the new facility to “accommodate the projected growth of our company”, according to their EZ application. Construction on the facility is scheduled to begin in July and wrap in March 2015. Construction of the new facility is estimated at $1.375 million, Wilke said. Dutch Valley Food Distributors has pledged to create the three new jobs over the next three years, with one new job per year. Dutch Valley Food Distributors is based in Myerstown, Pa. They are primarily a bulk supplier of food products, according to their website, www.dutchvalleyfoods.com In other business, commissioners opened two bids for a guardrail installation project. PDK Construction was the low bidder at $284,782.63, with the second bidder, Lake Erie Construction, coming in at $304,320. The bids will be reviewed by the Holmes County Engineer’s office, who will then make a recommendation to commissioners. The project will install approximately 17,000 feet of guardrail. The guardrail will be installed on County Roads 59, 209, 400 and 600. The project is the eighth phase of an ongoing effort by the engineer’s office.
