SUMMARY: Annual Holmes County Dog Warden fund raiser set for July 2 Registration is still open for the second annual Putting Fore Paws Golf Scramble benefiting the Holmes County Dog Warden’s office. The four man scramble is scheduled for July 2. The $50 registration fee per person goes toward medical expenses and food for the dog kennel, as well as a project to expand the existing facility. Dog Warden Katelyn Orr said she hopes to build on last year’s successful scramble. “It was a good day and we had a lot of fun,” Orr said. “We’re trying to make it an annual event that helps to save the lives of the stray dogs in Holmes County.” The kennel has seen as many as 30 dogs sharing space designed for 14 in recent years, Orr said. Part of the proceeds from the scramble will go toward more kennel space. In the short term, benefits like the scramble help with day to day needs such as food, blankets and dog toys as well as provide care for injured or neglected dogs. “We often receive injured dogs and don’t have the money for medical care,” Orr said. “Sometimes we are swamped with dogs and there’s not enough space.” The dog warden has taken in 144 dogs this year as of June 1. Of these, 29 have been adopted, 69 rescued and 44 reclaimed by owners. Two dogs were euthanized that had severe traumatic injuries and were first taken to a veterinarian. The Putting Fore Paws Golf Scramble is scheduled for Saturday, July 2 at Fire Ridge golf course in Millersburg. Registration starts at 8:30am. Registration fees are $50 per person or $200 per team.  Lunch will be provided with door prizes, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes as well as skins, mulligans, and proximities. Call the dog warden at 330-674-6301 to sign up.
