SUMMARY: Prosecuting attorney brings second degree felony charges in alleged abuse case. Father, age 22, incarcerated on $100,000 bond. A Big Prairie man has been charged with child endangering after allegedly physically abusing his 8-month-old son. Suntana K. Chanthakoun, 22, 5915 County Road 52, is charged in Holmes County Municipal Court with one count of child endangering, a second-degree felony. The charge stems from May 20, when Chanthakoun brought his son into Wooster Community Hospital with bruising to his head and face. According to Holmes County Sheriff’s reports, Chanthakoun told hospital staff that the child slipped from his arms and hit a bathroom counter. The child was treated and released, with later follow-up at Akron Children’s Hospital. The Holmes County’s sheriff office was notified of the incident by Wooster Community Hospital. Chanthakoun was arrested Tuesday June 25 after being interviewed by sheriff’s detectives. Investigators with Holmes County Job and Family Services, and the Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, assisted in the investigation. Chanthakoun has home visitation with his son, according to Holmes County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Richard Haun. Haun said the incident is still under investigation and declined to state “the mechanism of harm” allegedly used in the incident. No other children were in Chanthakoun’s residence at the time of the alleged incident, Haun said. Chanthakoun is being held at the Holmes County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Chanthakoun is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in municipal court July 2. Second-degree felony child endangering carries up to eight years in prison.
