A West Salem man facing prison on drug charges in Ashland County pleaded guilty July 13 in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to a weapons charge. Matthew B. Miller, 41, 76 County Road 1100, pleaded guilty to having weapons under disability, a fifth-degree felony. He faces up to 12 months in prison on the charge. The charge stems from May 2, when Miller was living in Holmes County. According to court records, Miller was found to be in possession of at least two firearms when a warrant from Ashland County was served at Miller’s Killbuck residence. Miller is barred from owning firearms after being convicted of burglary in 1991. Miller told Common Pleas Court Judge Robert D. Rinfret the Ashland County charges involve illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine. Miller is scheduled to be sentenced on those charges Friday July 15 and is facing a minimum prison sentence of two years. Miller is also facing felony charges in Medina County, and the courts there “are waiting to see what Ashland does”, he said. Rinfret ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for Aug. 31.
