SUMMARY: On his way to Florida, prosecutor says A Holmesville man was sentenced in Holmes County Common Pleas Court Thursday July 14 on one count of escape. Joshua J. Blake, 21, of 8105 Township Road 574, was sentenced to nine months in prison by Common Pleas Judge Robert D. Rinfret on the charge, a fifth-degree felony. The charge stems from April 25, when Blake was incarcerated at the Holmes County Jail on misdemeanor charges. According to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Chris Oehl, Blake was released for the day to perform community service at a local church. Blake was picked up at the church by friends, Oehl said. “It is our understanding his intention was to go to Florida,” Oehl said. “Family members discouraged him” and Blake turned himself in the next day. Blake was incarcerated on felony breaking and entering charges that were pleaded down to a misdemeanor. Blake has further previously served a six month prison sentence, handed down after he failed to complete residential treatment at the Stark Regional Community Corrections Center. Blake said he “just lost my cool” and was four days from completing the six month, intensive program when he was kicked out. Under questioning from Rinfret, Blake said he has spent “two years, maybe a little more” behind bars since he turned 18. Rinfret said he couldn’t comprehend Blake’s motives for being in trouble for two thirds of his adult life. “What is it - do you know why you do this stuff? You’re an intelligent young man,” Rinfret said. “I think it’s time you grow up, don’t you?”
