7/15/11 Wilmot man pleas to charges stemming from March burglary spree

                        
SUMMARY: Burglars claimed to be under the influence of drugs The final of three co-defendants involved in a March crime spree pleaded guilty to breaking and entering charges. Dennis G. Nicholas, 18, 14686 Navarre Road SW, Wilmot, pleaded Thursday July 14 in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to two counts of breaking and entering and one count of failure to appear. Nicholas was one of three individuals who broke into three Holmes County businesses March 13 - 14 and stole cash. The break-ins were part of a spree that also included burglaries of businesses in Tuscarawas and Stark counties. The Holmes County businesses reported total losses of $1,105, including damages caused during the break-ins. Michael T. Gnagy, 18, 14684 Navarre Road SW, Wilmot, and Russell T. Young, 19, 4610 Township Road 422, Sugarcreek, have previously pleaded guilty to related charges and are scheduled for sentencing Aug. 4 The failure to appear charge was filed May 24 after Nicholas did not show at pre-trial hearing. He faces up to 18 months on the charge and up to 12 months on each of the breaking and entering charges. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Chris Oehl said the codefendants admitted to their roles in the burglaries when interviewed by police. All claimed they were under the influence of drugs, Oehl said. “Each admitted their involvement to some degree, as best as they could remember,” Oehl said. “All admitted to being under the influence of hallucinogens.” In exchange for Nicholas’ guilty plea, five additional counts of theft and breaking and entering were dropped. In accepting Nicholas’ plea, Common Peas Judge Robert D. Rinfret said Nicholas will be ordered to make restitution. Rinfret ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled sentencing for Sept. 8.
