SUMMARY: Nov. 5 also election to include township, school board races An assistant prosecuting attorney will challenge incumbent Judge Jane Irving for Holmes County Municipal Court judge in the Nov. 5 election. Attorney Sean Warner has filed as an independent candidate in the municipal court race. Sitting Judge Jane Irving has also filed with the Board of Elections to run for another term. Warner, who is currently an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Holmes County Prosecuting Attorney’s office, said his decision to run is based on a desire to forward his career and continue to serve the people of Holmes County. “The primary reasons are, I believe I can do the job and the position is open this year,” Warner said. “I feel that at this point that I’ve been practicing law long enough, in the private sector as well as in the public sector as an assistant prosecutor, that I have the legal knowledge to do the job.” Warner has been with the prosecuting attorney’s office for three and a half years and previously worked for the Critchfield law firm in Millersburg. Irving, who has served the court since 1987, said she is seeking another term to develop programs recently implemented by the court. These include a diversion program in which court officials assist in getting suspended licenses reinstated and a new substance abuse recovery program, Irving said. “We keep expanding them (the programs),” Irving said. “I guess the view is, the job isn’t done yet.” Both Irving and Warner said they plan to lead grass roots campaigns. “I’ve already started campaigning, getting out at public events and meetings,” Irving said. Warner said he will launch his campaign soon. “I plan to give people the opportunity to meet me and ask questions,” Warner said. “The idea is to get out, talk and meet with everyone I can.” The term for municipal court judge is six years. The filing deadline for the judge’s race was May 6. Issues, township trustees, village offices, and school board races have an August 7 filing deadline. BOE deputy director Mary Shaffer said the Nov. 5 election could see some contested races. Shaffer said several applications for township trustee have been picked up at the BOE, but no one has filed as of July 8.
