7th Congressional District Race pits incumbent Bob Gibbs against political newcomer Joyce Healy-Abrams

                        
Summary: Two very different political candidates are vying for the 7th Congressional District Race, as Republican incumbent Bob Gibbs, a former Ohio Farm Bureau president, faces challenger Democrat Joyce Healy-Abrams in the November election. The Ohio 7th Congressional District Race was spotlighted during the recent Meet the Candidates Night at Kent State Tuscarawas Founder’s Hall. Challenger Joyce Healy-Abrams (D)was present. A graduate of Capital University and M.B.A. graduate of Western Reserve University, Healy-Abrams is owner of a small business that employs twenty. Healy-Abrams statesher number one priority as being ‘job creation” and ending unfair trade agreements that “hurt Ohio manufacturers”. She is in favor of negotiating lower prescription prices for Medicare patients. According to non-partisan VoteSmart.org, Healy-Abrams endorsements include, among others, numerous organized labor groups, including the Ohio AFL-CIO; NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC; Planned Parenthood Action Fund; and various Democratic party organizations. Bob Gibbs (R) was not present for Tuesday night’s event. Gibbs attended Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute and operated a Holmes County farm, and is a former president of the Ohio Farm Bureau. Gibbs ran in 2002 for the Ohio House of Representatives, a position he held for three consecutive terms. Gibbs served one Ohio Senate term, then in 2010 was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the 18th District. He currently sits on the House Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment. He is on record as being for repealing the Affordable Healthcare Act; opposing restrictions on the right to bear arms; favoring a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman; supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment; opposed to aggressive EPA regulations; pro-life, opposing any federal funding for abortions; supporting a maintained military presence in Afghanistan; and strongly opposing amnesty type immigration proposals. Gibbs endorsements include, among others, the NRA; National Federation of Independent Business SAFE Trust; Ohio Right to Life; and the Ohio State Medical Association.
