SUMMARY: Health department will pick up approximately one quarter of lease The purchase price of the Holmes County Health District’s old offices won’t completely cover rent for office space at the Job and Family Services building. Health Commissioner Dr. D.J. McFadden said Friday Sept. 16 that rent for the office space at JFS will work out to about $400,000 over the next nine years, $100,000 less than the sale price of the district’s original building on Wooster Road in Millersburg. The building was purchased by Pomerene Hospital for $300,000, with the understanding that the purchase price will be paid to JFS toward rent. McFadden said it will not cover all the rent. “The $300,000 wasn’t necessarily going to cover the full nine years,” McFadden said. “From my standpoint, this is fair. We have what the hospital was willing to purchase at and the lease with (JFS). We will work within it.” The Holmes County Board of Health Friday approved a nine-year lease with JFS for $11.06 per square foot. The board asked that an option for a 30-day period to terminate the lease and vacate the office space be amended to at least 180 days. The district has a total of 4,426 square feet at the JFS building, including a shared conference room. McFadden said the $100,000 over nine years the district will have to cover will still be cheaper than maintaining the old building. The district completed the move to the JFS building’s third floor Aug. 26. Though Pomerene officially owns the building, the health clinic will continue to operate there for the time being. In other business, McFadden said the district will hold mass flu clinics Oct. 4 at Hiland High School and Oct. 6 at West Holmes High School. The district has ordered 1,200 vaccine this year, McFadden said. Anyone six months and older can receive the vaccine, McFadden said. The 1,200 does are about equal to the amount distributed last year. The cost is $10 for children and $25 for adults. The owner of a mobile home on Township Road 466 in Washington Township has 30 days to vacate the home’s tenants due to a failed septic system. McFadden said the mobile home owner’s intent is to get the current tenants out and cease renting, which would abate a health nuisance brought on by the discharge of untreated sewage The next meeting of the Holmes County Board of Health is scheduled for Oct. 21.
