SUMMARY: Street value of plants estimated at $250,000 Marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $250,000 were recovered from two cornfields Monday Sept. 23. Holmes County Sheriff’s chief deputy Richard Haun said 50 marijuana plants were recovered from fields in Knox and Prairie townships. The plants were spotted from the air by helicopter, Haun said. The operation was conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation using a helicopter from the Butler County Sheriff’s office. Holmes Sheriff deputies worked on the ground removing the plants from the cornfields, Haun said. The plants filled the bed of a pickup truck. No arrests have been made, Haun said. The culprits are welcome to contact the sheriff’s office using information deputies left at the scene, Haun said. “We do leave very visible business cards and give the owners ample opportunity to contact us if they wonder where their crops went,” Haun said. “No one has taken us up on it so far, but you never know.” Haun said the marijuana will be held pending investigation. The sheriff’s office conducts such investigations searching for outdoor marijuana grow operations “periodically”, Haun said, based on information collected from tips and informants. Sometimes, the grow operations are detected from information provided by property owners who have noticed suspicious activity.
