A home and a family

                        
What’s a home? A place to live? Sure, but ideally it comes with family. The people who are there for you day or night, in laughter and in mourning, as they say. Home includes extended family, the ones who come to celebrate special occasions, and show up to help when it’s needed. But for people who need help with everyday life, there’s a temptation to become isolated. Whether it’s help with medical needs, mobility, or just life itself, there’s a natural bent toward seclusion, when more than ever, that’s when people need family life. They need people in their life everyday who care about the everyday stuff. That’s the Holmes County Home. The key word is home. Residents become family, and staff has been there for decades. “That’s what we have, is that family environment, where all of us know the residents, all of us know their families,” said Leslee Mast, superintendent at the Home. “We hire people who want to take care of the residents and have a good attitude, and the training can come later.” No, it’s not the old county home many people think they remember.
