A patriotic celebration to be held at Shreve Homecoming

                        
Summary: The Annual Shreve Homecoming has something for everyone. The two day celebration will be held in and around the village on July 12 and 13. The annual patriotic celebration that has been a part of Shreve tradition for more than 100 years gets underway July 12 with a host of activities suitable for the entire family. The two day event lasts through July 13 and includes family fun that residents have come to expect at the Shreve Homecoming. To get the celebration started, a Trick Truck Show begins on the streets of downtown at 5 p.m. on July 12. The First Responders Parade begins at and 6 p.m. while the highly anticipated Support Our Troops Rally begins at 6:30 p.m. Iraq war veteran, Nashville recording artist and former Wayne County resident Justin Goudy takes the stage at 8 p.m. to play both original songs as well as others from his favorite country artists. The show is free and continues through 10 p.m. In honor of the Shreve Homecoming, the County Line Historical Museum welcomes visitors to an Open House with free admission all weekend. The museum, located at 281 N. Market St. gives guests a glimpse into the past of Shreve and other communities along the Wayne and Holmes County border. Weapon enthusiasts will get a close-up look at muzzle loaders from the collection of Fred Donley that originated at the former Donnelly-Ryal Hardware store located in downtown Wooster near the square on the north side of East Liberty Street. The store closed in 1873. July 13 brings in even more entertainment when the Strasburg Pullers show off their skills in the Garden tractor Pull at 3 p.m. with the heavy hitters getting started at 4 p.m. Inflatables for the kids open at 4 p.m. in the Game Zone. Enjoy a delicious chicken barbeque from the Clinton Township Firemen. The Firemen’s Water Barrel Contest begins at 5 p.m. Free registration begins at 5 p.m. for the Classic Cruise-In. All cars registered will be entered into a drawing making them eligible to win $100. The drawing takes place at 9 p.m. Two Kiddy Tractor Pulls for kids age 3-11 are free with registration getting underway an hour before each event. Both 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. events require registration and will be held at W. McConkey St. Winners receive trophies and the opportunity to participate in the State Pedal Pull later this month. Live music from SOBOS begins at 6:30. The popular classic rock band is back for an encore performance after rave reviews from last year’s visitors. One lucky winner will receive $300 in a drawing to be held at 10 p.m. The amount doubles to $600 if the recipient is present at the drawing. No patriotic celebration would be complete without fireworks. The show, sponsored by the Orrville Firemen begins at 10:30 p.m. sharp just southeast of the midway at the Fletcher Farm, located just off of South Wells St. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the display from downtown or from the Harold D. Miller Memorial Park.
