This year’s Annual Holmes County Home Benefit Auction promises to be another packed-full day of quality items up for auction along with plenty of food and fun. Auction goers will be helping to raise money for the elderly at the Holmes County Home. It all kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 17 with breakfast starting at 7 a.m. Even before Saturday morning, the event will be raising money with a volleyball tournament on Friday evening Sept. 16. Food is served at 5 p.m. and volleyball starts at 6:30 p.m. In between, people can stop by to preview sale items. The first auction on Saturday morning is a silent auction staring at 7 a.m. followed by furniture. Next up is a miscellaneous items auction. A full menu of food offerings with BBQ chicken, noodles, baked beans, sausage sandwiches and homemade ice cream will be available before the afternoon auctions start which includes a second silent auction followed by specialty items, lawn furniture, barns, horses and buggies. The quilt auction starts at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Kid’s Auction where children can bid on toys and other items. “We offer the kids’ auction so that they can have some fun during the event too,” said Leslee Mast, superintendent of the Holmes County Home. “Most of the items we offer throughout the day are new. We do occasionally get an antique item but generally all items are new,” Mast said. Just a few of the items featured this year include: Several quality oak, cherry and maple bedroom sets Oak curio Rustic cherry buffet Silver maple collection Pictures Quilts Pony and a cart Frame building Garage doors Holmes County Home engraved items Lawn furniture Buggies Horses including a 5-year old black gelding Items such as the Hunting Log Cabin and furniture sold really well in past years. Mast said that many people come in search of keepsake items such as a grandfather clock, bedroom set or quilt. “People look for items they will use every day but will last many years and items that will make a good keepsake or heirloom,” Mast said. Last year, the event saw about 2,000 attendees and raised $174,000. All proceeds from both Friday and Saturday events will go to benefit the Holmes County Home. Monies raised have been used to buy equipment and other items for the residents. “We have purchased beds, new furniture, new equipment for nursing and for the kitchen department plus birthday and Christmas gifts for the residents among other needs,” Mast said. “I encourage everyone to come to the auction and take a tour of the facility and see what they are supporting through both the auction and the levy,” she said.
