The Dover Public Library welcomes author Paul Stutzman Tuesday, September 27 at 7p.m. in another installment of their Meet the Author Program. A book signing and refreshments will follow the program that features Stutzmans second book, Biking Through: Its About Time.
A Berlin resident, Stutzman decided to travel the nation by bicycle to visit with people and hear their stories. He wanted to meet America. Beginning in Neah Bay, Washington and finally ending up in Key West, Florida, Stutzman used no premeditated path on his 5000 mile journey that began July 10, 2010 and lasted until September 16, 2010.
Biking Through details an amazing journey and the childhood that led to Stutzmans desire to experience the open road. From his first experience on a much-used bicycle found at his grandmothers house to his finally convincing his father to get him a bike of his own, it eventually happened and Stutzman received an old and ugly green and white Roadmaster with an uncomfortable seat that he was forced to share with his sisters.
With colorful chapter titles like Only 5000 Miles to Go, The Peace Train, Night in Utah Hell and Kudzu, Cotton Fields and Canines, Biking Through allows readers to travel the journey taken by Stutzman with nothing more than his Notebook and his own thoughts to guide him as he encountered people and places he would have never met had he chosen to travel by automobile.
After losing his wife to breast cancer in 2006, Stutzman left a long career as manager at Dutch Valley Restaurant at Sugarcreek to hike the Appalachian Trail in a search for personal healing and peace. The story of the trek that changed his life and faith is recounted in his first book, Hiking Through: Finding Peace and Freedom on the Appalachian Trail.
Stutzman considers himself a fulltime writer these days as is currently working on his first book of fiction. In addition to writing, he speaks to groups about his hiking and biking adventures and the lessons learned during these exceptional experiences.
