Can America bless God or must it always be the other way around

Summary- A couple weeks ago our country celebrated its 235 birthday. From the inception of the revolutionary war men and women have prayed for God’s blessing on this nation. Some wonder…is it time we bless God? Story- From the first thought of revolution prayers were offered to heaven by men like John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. Many journals from various historical figures have writings that show a consensus of prayer and intercession on behalf of a new nation. In 1918 Irving Berlin first wrote and then later in 1938 revised the patriotic hymn, “God Bless America”, which became the signature song of Kate Smith. Berlin apparently wrote the original version in while serving in the United States Army at Camp Upton in Yaphank, New York. At the time the song just didn’t fit anywhere in Berlin’s opinion. However in 1938, with the rise of Hitler, Berlin who was a first-generation European immigrant and Jew felt it was the proper time to revive the song as a ‘peace song’. It was introduced and sung on Kate Smith’s radio show on Armistice Day in 1938. Asking for God’s blessing on America has since become a common phrase. The words, ‘God Bless America’ are sung at parades, Memorial Day services and school plays all across America. Those words are painted on RVs, billboards, signs, doorposts and in many other places. But should America attempt to bless God and if so, how could we? How can a nation do anything for God, the One that holds every nation in His own hand? Pastor David Stutzman of Berlin Christian Fellowship believes our nation can easily bless God by doing some pretty simple things. “How can America bless God,” Stutzman asked? By returning to the discarded values and principals of our Founding Fathers. The success and longevity of a structure depends on the strength and integrity of its foundation. America can bless God by protecting the integrity of our foundation from people who are biased against our roots.” When one considers the peril that has shaken other parts of the earth compared to natural disasters endured on American soil, it is obvious that America is indeed blessed. From the start America was divinely blessed to be able to defeat Great Britain the most notable military on the face of the earth at that time. The timing and growth of America through the industrial revolution, the survival of the nation through the Civil War as well as the World Wars and the way our nation has been protected from many natural disasters and earthquakes indicates a strong possibility of divine providence. But why? Why does God choose to bless our nation over and over again? Well according to a statement by President Abraham Lincoln, “It is announced in scripture, and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord.” Lincoln believed our country was blessed because of its’ acknowledgement and service to God. Stutzman agrees. “Why has America been richly blessed compared to other countries,” he said. “Engraved in the walls of our Supreme Court are the 10 commandments. Every major USA Government building has engraved scripture in wood and stone. At the highest point of Washington D.C., on the top of the Washington Monument, is inscribed on the top stone written in Latin," Glory to God". Also, we have always honored Israel. These are reasons that God has chosen to bless our nation. Another thing America has always done is live out Matthew 25: 34-40 (feeding, clothing and helping other). No other country has ever been as generous to friend and foe alike as the United States of America.” At a time when an uncertain economy and other obstacles seem to plague our nation, one may wonder…how long can we stay in His grace? How can we bless God to the point that He continues to bless us and be pleased with us? Stutzman believes as long we our nation continues to honor Israel and adhere to the scriptures found in Matthew 25:34-40, we will continue to find favor in His eye. “God works through people to execute his will for the earth,” Stutzman said. “His plan is still to have the Garden of Eden cover the earth. Isaiah 2:2 is being fulfilled. The Mountain of the Lords House will be established on the top of all the mountains. This light will be so bright that all the nations will be drawn to it. Why? Because we (USA) have the solutions to the world’s problems.” One example of this is a ministry known as La Red, which is supported by Berlin Christian Fellowship. La Red Business Network is a faith-based, non-profit organization that brings transformation to the minds of people through Kingdom values and principles. Currently, La Red intimately works with governmental, prisons, universities and business leaders in many nations throughout North and Latin America. “America is making a bigger difference in the world than most people realize,” Stutzman explained. “We constantly get calls from the nations to come bring values and principals to their governments. Even America is waking up to the fact that we are morally and financially bankrupt. For example, the Philadelphia Police Department with 7,000 employees is now implementing the La Red principals with astonishing results. To continue to stay in God’s grace, we simply need to read His manual for mankind and follow it. America is still great, but the moment we take it for granted and let down our guard, we could lose it for future generations. The eyes of our children and grand children are on us. Lets Bless God always!”
