Summary: MooFest celebrates the Ohio dairy farmer in Ohio’s Amish Country. Now in its second year, the annual event is fast becoming a favorite with residents and visitors to the region. The month of June has long been recognized as National Dairy Month which makes it the perfect time for MooFest. The second annual event hosted by the Berlin Main Street Merchants and the Bargain Hunter includes in-store promotions at some of your favorite local family-owned businesses as well as plenty of free samples on June 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in and around Berlin. "Last year we ran into people that saw MooFest on Facebook and drove down from Barberton to enjoy the entertainment, free dairy samples and store specials,” said Carey Conn, business growth strategist at Graphic Publications, Inc., publisher of The Bargain Hunter. Across the state there are more than 3,200 dairy farms and many of them are in Holmes County. The rich agricultural heritage is apparent in many of the Berlin Main Street Merchants as they feature the numerous products that come from the various family dairy farms. The Berlin Main Street Merchants are always anxious to host events that are fun for the whole family and MooFest has something for everyone. “It's a fun day to enjoy with your family while you check out what all the shops in Berlin have to offer,” said Conn. “I was amazed with the unique and fun ideas each participating store came up with to be a part of MooFest.” Try your hand, literally, at milking a cow. She may be mechanical, but Callie is much like a real cow and teaches participants how to milk properly. Bigg Bubb's will reward everyone that gives her a try with a complimentary hand-dipped ice cream cone. "Callie helps kids to understand where milk comes from. Too many of them think milk comes from the grocery store," said Laverne Coblentz, Callie's caretaker. "The older generation likes to try it, too, because it brings back memories of when they were young and hand-milking was done on their family farms." New to MooFest, Yummy’s Frozen Yogurt has created the MooLatte, the official drink of MooFest. Ruggles Premium Ice Cream is hitting the road and will make a stop at Walnut Creek Cheese where they will offer complimentary samples of their latest flavors. Troyer's Country Market will be handing out frozen treats from Frosty Twins while Coblentz Chocolates will offer samples of their delicious handmade candies made in-house daily. Nature's Food Market features products that benefit you and the planet including locally produced cream-top milk. In honor of Moo Fest they will feature complimentary Organic String Cheese Stringles. Guggisberg Cheese relies on wholesome local milk for their products that have become synonymous with the region. Samples will be available at various merchants along with with moist and delicious buttermilk cookies from Kauffman's Bakery. Stop in at Sol’s for the very best banana split made with Schloneger’s Homemade Ice Cream and offered at a discount in honor of MooFest. Embrace your inner bovine and receive a free ice cream cone with your best cow imitation at Cindy's Diner when you stop in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Holmes County Flea Market will honor five winners with a MooFest cornhole set when shoppers sign up between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. A new winner will be drawn each hour. Enjoy live music from the Salt Creek Bluegrass Band on the square at 1 p.m. MooFest is another reason to visit Berlin in Ohio’s beautiful Amish Country. Get mooving!
