Marketplace main story:
A feeling of delight greets visitors to Troyers Country Market before they even step through the door. It could be the sight of fresh produce piling out of bins, or the scent of perfectly ripe apples in dozens of varieties wafting through the air, or maybe its the distinct hum of happy customers and cheerful employees that gives this special store its lively ambiance.
The store is a one-stop-shop for holiday shopping with its blend of specialty and everyday items. Customers will need both for the seasons customary feasts, reasoned Store Manager Jonathan Yoder. And with shelves as full and varied as these, visitors are sure to go home with more than the items on their shopping list.
Our store is like a treasure hunt, said John Troyer, co-owner. There are these little treasures youll find in each department of the store, whether its Mediterranean Sunset Cheddar cheese or Muscadine grape juice.
The Mediterranean Sunset Cheddar is just one of the cheeses at Troyers. Alongside staples like cheddar and Swiss, shoppers can find blocks of Cheddar Blueberry, Sweet Cranberry with Cinnamon, Mango Fire Cheddar, Bacon Cheese or Garden Veggie to add zing to the holiday table.
Speaking of cheeses, a trip to Troyers wouldnt be complete without taking home one of the famous cheese balls. These impressive party favorites come in flavors like chocolate chip, butter pecan, beef, white chocolate raspberry and veggie ranch, all of which are flying off the shelves, said Yoder.
Our cheese balls are a local favorite as well as an out-of-town favorite. People drive a long way for them, he said. We have unique items that we produce here at the store that nobody can duplicate, and our cheese balls are one of those items.
For holiday essentials, Troyers has the hams, smoked turkeys and fresh produce that are the ingredients for the yuletide menu, as well as assorted nuts, specialty flours, assorted bulk spices and pie crusts for that pumpkin or pecan pie.
For more holiday trimmings, the store offers Troyers own Amish Wedding Foods, a unique line of canned products modeled after the Amish penchant for piling the wedding table with delectable offerings.
These items include everything from pickled baby beets and canned peach slices to spreads such as strawberry jalapeño jelly, pumpkin butter or Christmas jam, a festive combination of strawberry and cranberry.
Because these holiday meals are so special, they should be comprised of equally special ingredients, explained Yoder, noting that customers can taste the difference in the freshness of their products. The same commitment to quality is applied throughout the store.
This attitude stems from the local legacy of wholesome cultivation and cooking. Many of the products we sell at the store come from a heritage of traditional family values and our heritage here, especially in Holmes County, is the same way. Weve found manufacturers of products that have the same values that we have, said Troyer, adding that Troyers employees, from the owners to the cashiers, have the same values.
For example, the stores line of Edna Lucille soaps were first invented and manufactured by a woman who originally learned to make them from her father in Holland. Likewise, the Amish Wedding Foods use recipes handed down through the generations.
For this reason, every square foot is special and each shelf is filled with something exceptional, said Troyer. And if customers would like a sampler of the wide array of merchandise, Troyers makes shopping easy with their gift baskets.
We put in some of our favorite Holmes County foods: a combination of jams, jellies, cheese, meats and chocolate, said Yoder. This year, Troyers introduced a non-refrigerated basket featuring cheeses and summer sausage.
So let this tantalizing collection of cuisine and creations bring even more cheer to the holiday season. Troyer Country Market is located at 5201 CR 77, Millersburg, Ohio and can be reached at 330-893-3786 or http://www.troyerscountrymarket.com/.
