Summary: The talent displayed at the annual Gnadenhutten Fireworks Festival talent show thrilled the crowd and made it a tough to be a judge. In the end it was the showmanship style of the Jackson 5 and a 10 year-old girl from Brightwood who ruled the day. It’s nice to come out on top, but Gnadenhutten Fireworks Festival talent show winner, Chloe Martin, proved it’s more important to enjoy what you are doing. “I came here just to have fun,” said Martin, 10, of Brightwood who sang and danced to the song “I Want You Back” in the style of the Jackson 5. Decked out in a sparkly silver hat and shoes and a red, white and blue tie and American Flag sunglasses Martin’s dance steps and powerful voice never faltered. Martin is the daughter of Melissa and Ron Martin and has a four year old sister, Paige. Martin has been singing since the age of four. “I’ve done a lot of talent shows,” said Martin who does not take dance lessons and works with her mother to develop her choreography. “I’d like to thank my whole family for having me work so hard.” Martin also likes to play softball and has performed in plays at her church and at the Little Theatre. She plans to save her $100 prize money for college. Winning second place and $75 with her graceful dance routine to the song “Absence of Fear” was Sydney Jeffries, 16, of New Philadelphia. Third place winner, Jessica Perry, 21, of Uhrichsville, performed the song “How Great Thou Art” in the style of Carrie Underwood. “I like to sing Christian music because it means more to me than other music,” said Perry. Perry has been singing since the age of three and is majoring in music education at Muskingum College where she will be putting her $50 prize to good use. Before the competition Jessica narrowed her song selection down to five choices. “Then I called my sister and made her listen to every one and she picked the song,” said Perry. Energetic gymnastic routines won fourth place and $25 for Brianna Brown, 12, of Port Washington and fifth place and $20 for Renee Page, 13, of Gnadenhutten.
