Area residents are being asked to help out as the newly formed Tunnel Hill Community Center is currently investing in updating the former Jefferson Grange building to make it more appealing and comfortable for its patrons. “We are now working to put bathrooms off to the side of the building, to replace our current outdoor bathrooms,” explained Pauline Lanzer, who is part of the volunteer community group leading the project. “We are going out for grant money, and asking people to help in raising funds. We have already received a major contribution from a private donor. The project will cost us approximately $80,000 to complete. After the bathrooms, we would like to update the kitchen, upgrade the furnace, and also put in air conditioning so we can also have dances in the summer. It just gets too hot in here now to hold those.” Lanzer noted that a donor has already donated enough vinyl siding to cover both the current building and the new addition. “In addition to the dances, for the community we are putting together programs that are oriented to the family, especially to children,” explained Norm Lanzer. “Christmas events, like tonight’s visit from Santa, a community Halloween parade and party, family movie nights, and a summer children’s reading program with story times are examples of some of the things we are already doing.” “For our target area, are looking at at least a five mile radius – from out to Jerusalem Church near New Phila, Baltic, Ragersville, Port Washington. However, everyone is welcome. Response from the community is growing. We hope to have wedding receptions, graduation parties, and family reunions once we have the new bathrooms in,” explained Norm. The building has regular seating for about 100, but can hold up to 225 people. Tunnel Hill also has additional chair and table rental available. “I just encourage everyone to make a donation to us. Any amount would be helpful,” stated Pauline Lanzer. “Come out and visit us on a Saturday night, and see what we are doing here in Stonecreek. We have a lot of good times.” Donations can be sent to Tunnel Hill Community Center PO Box 84 Stonecreek, OH 43840.
