Cancer has affected everyone in someway, be it with a friend or family member being diagnosed with a form of it or being a survivor your self, cancer leaves a mark on everyones lives. One of the most successful organizations for raising awareness of cancer has been the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life. Fiesta Salons in Dover held what it called a cut-a-thon on Sunday July 24, raising money for Relay for Life by offering discounted haircuts with all the proceeds going to the organization.
We held our Relay for Life Cut-a-thon, offering 10 dollar haircuts with all of the money going to Relay for Life, said Danielle Orr, manager of Fiesta Salons of Dover. This is something very dear to me, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and is currently going through treatments, and a good friend of our district manager battled cancer and is currently in remission, so we, my district manager and I, wanted to do something to help. The cut-a-thon came about as a way to do that.
I decided to come today to get my hair cut and help out Relay for Life, said Gage Tice, a customer at Fiesta Salons, I thought it was an interesting way to help out Relay for Life, and save money on a haircut.
Along with the store in Dover, the Fiesta Salons in Waynesburg and Canton held cut-a-thons today as well, said Orr. It was a great success, weve had people who came in today just because of this fundraiser and also called to ask if they could come in and donate money. Customers had a choice as to get the special priced haircut or not, with many of them choosing to do so. If the turnout was good at the other stores, the cut-a-thon is something that will be done again. We wanted to do something to get the word out, to let people know that they could help, and the response was great.
