Summary: Ester Mast and the rest of her entertainment team add some spice to the Classic in the Country. A giant walking basketball, and a free car give away, are less than likely things expected at a high school girl’s hoops showcase, but for the Classic in the Country, it’s no big deal. Ester Mast knows just what to do to get the crowds going during the long weekend of basketball inside the Perry Reese Center. Mast has been the chair of the entertainment schedule for Classic in the Country for many years, bringing new games and lively entertainment to the weekend festivities. “All the games we do have become bigger over the years; they started out small and then became something more developed like musical balls, instead of chairs and stuff like that,” commented Mast. Mast, who graduated from Hiland in 2006, teamed up with many people to help her with all the entertainment the weekend has to offer, including new games for the audience and players to participate in. “I work for an outdoor education facility center and we have all kinds of games. I’ve been able to add games and each year we try to do something different,” said Mast. “This year we have two or three new things, with 20 games in the Classic in the Country schedule you think we wouldn’t be able to fill them but this year I think we can. We have lots of stuff up our sleeve.” For the stressed out players involved in the weekend tournament the lively atmosphere Mast and her team bring to Classic help keep the tournament fun. “I think it’s definitely important to have entertainment in the tournament, it adds some flavor to the Classic. A lot of times kids get bored with just basketball all day and so we like to spice it up a little bit, we got a lot of good stuff from our sponsors to give away,” commented Mast. Some crazy prizes were handed out; including two cars given away at the tournament this weekend through a drawing, and smaller things like blankets, Under Armour gear, water bottles, and etc... Entertainment is a key in making the weekend as hospitable for players as possible, along with the many handouts from sponsors; the players get a chance to participate in plenty of games during half time. “ Our favorite crowds are players because by the end of the day you have a lot of teams who are just here to watch and that’s the best crowds because they can get into it, and we sometimes bring teams down to play against each other. It’s always fun,” said Mast. Mast and the rest of her entertainment team have really done a lot with the entertainment schedule at the Classic. They do a great job, and you just never know what they might do next to make the weekend at the Perry Reese Center an unforgettable experience for many in attendance.
