Don’t limit what God is able to do through you

Summary: Do you think you are powerless as a Christian? Amber shows verses that prove quite the contrary. Let me ask you a question: Do you think you can limit God? I can just hear the no’s resonating as people read this. No, of course you can’t limit God. He is all powerful, nothing can limit God. Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but that is not true. God is all powerful in that there is no one more powerful than Him, but did you know that we can limit God? Before you get mad and dismiss this article, stick with me and I will explain. Psalms 78:41 clearly states: “Yes, again and again they tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.” Right there, it is saying that the people of Israel limited God. How did they limit God? By their small thinking. The next few verses after that mention how they forgot His power and all the miraculous things He did to bring them out of Egypt. They limited what He could do through them because of their unbelief. We limit God as well. God wants to move through us more than we know. But we have to let Him. God has great plans for all of us, not just a select few here and there. One of my favorite verses is Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, ACCORDING TO the power that works in us.” I capitalized that to emphasize how God is able to do these marvelous things. Most people quote the first part of the verse and leave out the last half. I think they do so because it puts it all back on God. “Oh yes, God can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants” they say and it takes us out of the picture. It makes God out to be this mysterious being that you just don’t know about, maybe you will be the chosen one that He wants to do amazing things for. But God wants amazing things for ALL of us! The way God is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all we ask or think is through His power working in us. It is a joint effort between us and God. Isn’t that amazing? It is His power but we are the vessels that He chooses to work through. Our part is to believe and receive this incredible power by faith, and allow God to work through us. I meditate on this verse all the time. It reminds me of how much God is able to do through me because of His power living in me. And it should remind you how much God is able to do through you as well. It would be incredible if He could just do all that we ask or think. It would be awesome if He could do ABOVE all we ask or think. But no, He wanted to make His point very clear – He is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE all we ask or think through His power in us. “Don’t limit God” resonates from this verse. Have you ever gone there in your mind? Have you ever thought that our amazing, powerful, loving God has put His power in us and everything is possible? Did you know we have the same power on the inside of us that raised Jesus from the dead? Paul prays an incredible prayer for the people of Ephesus. Part of that prayer is for them to know what incredible power they have as believers. Ephesians 1:19-20 says: “and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places.” I encourage you to write down Ephesians 1:19-20 and Ephesians 3:20. Mediate on those verses until the power that is inside of you as a born again believer becomes real in not just your head but your heart. When that happens, you will quit limiting God by your small thinking, and nothing will be impossible for you!
