The first annual Kidron Days provided residents and visitors two days of garage sales, discount sales at local businesses and a business showcase. Starting on Friday morning, June 15, Kidron Road was lined with garage and yard sales signs and residents offered tables full of affordable items. Area businesses also offered special sales and discounts throughout their stores. Many of the stores also had tables out front with specially priced items and great bargains. The two-day event was topped off with a business showcase held in the Kidron Park Community Center on Saturday morning. Over 500 visitors milled through the 26 vendor setups to learn about services or to peruse local artworks or unique brick patio furniture. “This was the second year for the business showcase,” said Betty Geiser, president of the Kidron Community Park committee. “We held the showcase last year just as an event by itself. We really wanted to get the community and the businesses involved so we expanded it to Kidron Days,” she said. Geiser said that many of the businesses got involved by offering special sales and discounts plus many were offering door prize drawings or offered goodies such as ice cream. “The Kidron Community Council offered garage sale signs to those who wanted to put up a garage or yard sale. We are going to review the feedback from everybody but we are hoping to make it an annual event,” Geiser said. The business showcase had medical services companies, banks, photographers, retailers and professional service companies participating with a setup. Jack Salisbury, a local landscape artist had a display of artworks setup. He works in oil, water color and acrylics. “My theme today was a walk through the woods,” Salisbury said. “The turnout for the showcase was really good. I was able to sell a couple of paintings,” he said. There was a setup fee for the business showcase. All proceeds from the show benefit Kidron Park. “We are a nonprofit organization so we raise the money to keep the park running. We hold fundraisers to help us. Plus, the business showcase is a good way for the businesses in the area to spend time networking with each other, it’s a nice friendly get together” Geiser said. Angela Hochstetler was working at Eastwood Amish Craft Furniture on the second day of the town-wide event. “We did offer a discount on in-stock items for the two-day sale. The town has been very busy today and we’ve had local people come in and say they used the event to come into some of the shops they had not visited before,” Hochstetler said. Naomi Hershberger, one of the owners of the Dutch Country Furniture store said the store just moved into Kidron last summer. “We decided to offer discounts on items in the store and on the outdoor furniture. Plus, we are drawing for a winner of one of the white ash porch rockers,” Hershberger said. “There has been more store traffic with people coming for the Kidron Days. And, there are many people entered in the drawing,” she said.
