Summary: Another day of great weather blessed the Tuscarawas County fair as visitors enjoyed the dairy sale and the NTPA Truck and Tractor pull. Many visitors entered the fairgrounds wearing shorts on Friday thanks to the day’s high humidity with temperatures in the low 80s. The Tuscarawas County Dairy Farmers Dairy Bar was doing a brisk business in ice cream sales. Dairy was the focus of the day with the 26th annual Dairy sale held at 3 p.m. at the Main Show Arena. Craig Gordon of Sugarcreek did the honors chugging the first bottle of milk in celebration of Gordon Milk Transport’s winning bid of $5800 on the No. 1 Dairy products basket. Mako’s Market and Pharmacy purchased the No. 2 basket for $4,500 and the No. 3 basket went for that same amount to the Kimble Company. The total of the sale was $87,500. “This amount is down from our 25th Anniversary sale last year,” said Auctioneer Steve Cronebaugh, “If you look at the year before the totals are up $10,000 from 2011.” Ciara Himes, 16, of Strasburg sang the National Anthem before the NTPA Truck and Tractor Pulls held at the Grandstand at 7 p.m. NTPA Announcer Denver Geitgey of Grand Rapids said he and his wife, Judy, enjoy coming to the Tuscarawas County Fair. “The crowd’s good, the track’s good, and the food’s good,” he commented. Judy was excited that this is the fair with the donuts referring to Little’s Old Fashioned Donut truck which is a fixture beside the Grandstand. Geitgey talked about how much the sport of truck and tractor pulling means to the participants, they love to compete. Some have been known to stay up all night working on their tractors if they have a last minute break down. Matt Clemons of Wakeman confirmed the time the sport can consume when preparing for a pull. “It’s a never ending process, we are working on it all the time,” he said of his truck, Alter Ego. “We run around 50 times per season anywhere this side of the Mississippi.” Lauren Trimmer, 17, of the Boots n Bling club was named the Versatility Champion. Horseback riders compete in Showmanship, English, Western, and contest classes. Other shows of the day included Dairy, Pony, pet rabbit, and Western Ground roping.
