Summary: Wayne County GOP holds a “We Did Build This” ribbon cutting event to open the first Victory Center in downtown Wooster. Main Article: For the first time, the Wayne County Republican party will be operating a fully staffed office for the upcoming presidential campaign. Congressman Jim Renacci, Wayne County dignitaries and members of the Wayne County Republican party attended a “We Did Build This” grand opening and ribbon cutting event on Monday, July 30. A Romney Believe in America campaign mobile HQ bus was parked in front of the GOP office on N Buckeye St. in Wooster during the event. Party members were able to board the bus which included seating in the back to implement a call center and use the Internet to reach out to voters. “This is the first time ever in Wayne County that we have a Victory Center which is the campaign headquarters for the Romney for President campaign and the Renacci for Congress re-election,” said Jim Smail, chairman of the Wayne County Republican Party. “There has always been a Republican headquarters here but this is the first time to my knowledge that a U.S. presidential campaign came here to open a fully staffed office to represent the campaign. There will be one fulltime employee, several interns and some days there will be 15 to 20 interns and volunteers,” Smail said. Smail said that Wayne County has been a predominantly Republican county and the local GOP is a highly active group. Over 30 people attended the opening ceremony including one of President Obama’s supporters who was quietly and quickly asked to stand outside. At this time, Mitt Romney doesn’t have any planned stops for Wayne County. It is possible that there may be future plans to include a visit. “We are currently working on an activity called Buckeye Blitz. Volunteers are making door-to-door contact with households in Wayne County to both promote our Republican candidates and agenda and to poll those we are calling on to ascertain their thoughts on the current administration and office holders. Based on that activity, we are feeling good about the forth coming election,” Smail said. Julia Grosjean, a Wooster resident in attendance, has actively been in involved with politics since her school days. She said she made up her mind a long time ago as to who she will be voting for the next U.S. President. “I think Mitt Romney is a good guy and I believe he will do what he says he’ll do,” Grosjean said. George Brown, field director for Ohio for Romney called the new Victory Center the local “epicenter for the Mitt Romney, Josh Mandel and Jim Renacci elections.” “Wayne County is critical for our campaign this year. Every vote we get here, President Obama has to find two votes,” Brown said. Congressman Renacci told the group that it is important to get out and vote and to get others to vote. “In less than 100 days from now, we will truly have the most important election of our time,” Renacci said. “It’s about either voting for bigger government and more spending and spending our children’s money versus changing the direction of our country. It is so important that with this election that we get out to vote and do all you can to get others to vote either by working the phones or going door-to-door. This election is really about our future, our children’s future and our grandchildren’s future. I appreciate all that you’re doing and all that you will do for Governor Romney and myself. We are going to work really hard over the next 99 days to make a real difference,” he said. Starting Aug. 13, the Victory Center will be in open Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Wooster Victory Center is located at 120 N. Buckeye Street, Wooster.
