Our area offers many exciting opportunities ways to take your trip to new heights with many high-flying opportunities, from exploring the history of aviation, watching hot air balloon races, and even getting your adrenaline pumping with zip-line adventures. Balloon Classic Invitational During the weekend of July 29-31 the skies over Canton, Ohio will be filled with 65 bright and colorful hot air balloons as part of Canton’s Balloon Invitational Classic that kicks-off the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s annual enshrinement festivities. For 2011, the Balloon Classic Invitational celebrates its 25 anniversary. “The Balloon Classic Invitational is one of the first events to kick off the induction ceremony at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and does so hugely,” said John Kiste, executive director of the Canton and Stark County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It’s great to go see the balloons taking off from Kent State Stark and watch them fill the sky. The nightglows that they do are just gorgeous. It’s a perfect way to start the hall of fame festivities.” Festivities take place at the Kent State University at Stark campus. Ashland Balloon Fest From June 30 through July 3 hot air balloons will fill the sky over beautiful Ashland, Ohio in northern Amish Country. Each night balloons take part in what’s called a nightglow, where they inflate at night and use special burners to glow, filling the night with bright colors. The Festival takes place at the Freer Field on St. Rt. 60 South Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival June 10 – 12 the Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held in historic Coshocton, Ohio. For more than twenty years hot air balloons have filled the sky over Coshocton during their annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. Along with balloon launches and flyovers the festival includes amusement rides and carnival games, something for the entire family. The Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place at the county Fairgrounds on S. 7th St. Tuscora Park Ferris Wheel Looking for some highflying fun that the whole family can take part in? Then come to New Philadelphia, Ohio and ride a classic Ferris wheel at historic Tuscora Park. This classic carnival ride can be ridden anytime during the summer and has been in operation at the park since 1943 and offers riders a chance to see Tuscora Park and New Philadelphia from a bird’s-eye level. Tuscora Park is located on North Broadway Ave in New Philadelphia, OH. Harry Clever Field Airport More than just a small town airport, Harry Clever Field Airport in New Philadelphia, Ohio is where American hero Astronaut John Glenn first left earth behind. Located on East High Avenue, Harry Clever Field is where Glenn chose to earn his private aircraft license, beginning down the path to becoming the first person to orbit the earth. MAPS Air Museum Looking to learn more about the history of aviation or spend time seeing up-close historic aircraft? If so, MAPS Air Museum in Canton, Ohio is the place for you. The Military Aircraft Preservation Society’s museum is internationally known for its collection of historic military aircraft and its work with preserving the history of military aviation.
