Summary: The first in a series of free classes meant to educate people about healthy food choices will be held Aug. 28 at Natures Food Market at Berlin. Zedrick Clark will give an informative talk about food labels and how to read them to insure you are choosing the healthiest foods for your family.
Sometimes it is not the lack of desire to eat a healthy diet that gets in the way of consumers making the right choices when shopping for food but the confusion of what is and what isnt healthy. Conflicting information makes some people give up altogether and resort to old habits and convenience foods. Marketing has complicated an issue that wellness enthusiast Zedrick Clark believes can be simplified to benefit people of all ages, body types and levels of health.
On Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. Clark will offer a free class in the conference room at Natures Food Market at Berlin that will focus on food labels and how to read between the lines to fully understand them. Does zero grams of fat mean fat-free? Does whole grain mean whole grain? What is a functional food?
These and other questions will be answered in a forum that is designed for people who know nothing about the benefits of a healthy organic diet as well as those with considerable knowledge. A question and answer will follow the seminar. I have found there are people with vast knowledge of the importance of a healthy diet who can still learn more, said Clark.
Deceptive practices are common in food labeling in order to give consumers the impression a product is healthy. The use of images consistent with health and familiar logos are meant to reassure consumers.
There is a lot of polarization between the mainstream healthcare industry and the alternative healthcare movement, said Clark. One thing we hope to share in this and other seminars is that health and wellness can be simple. It is marketing that complicates it and confuses people.
The first in a series of programs that will include guest speakers, Clark hopes participants will share their interests so he can provide information that is relevant that will allow them to learn how they can take control of their health and in many cases even reduce their healthcare costs by making choices that can be a part of a healthy lifestyle.
A lot of the information out there about health and wellness is lost in translation, said Clark. People are different ages and have different body types. They are in varying states of health. Not all information pertains to everyone. We have to look at each person as an individual and help them find accurate information that is important to them.
An upcoming seminar will feature information about genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food and will be held Sept. 13.
The food label seminar is free and open to all. Registration is required by Aug. 27 and can be done by simply calling 330-893-4069 or emailing zed@zedrickclark.com.
