MCC Connections Fabric Sale Jan 24-27
By Joanne Lehman
Quilters and crafters will find their “goods” at MCC Connections when they come out to shop at a special sale to be held on January 24-27. The store will offer over 700 full and partial bolts of high quality cotton fabrics during these days. According to store manager Bill Ressler, the bolts were donated by an online store in northeast Ohio that went out of business. The owners offered the entire balance of their stock to MCC Connections if they were willing to pick it up. MCC Connections will display the complete selection of fabrics and hold a special sale at the end of January.
Those who know fabrics will recognize names of quality manufacturers such as Benartex, RJR, Moda, Hoffman and more. According to Ruth Steiner, manager of the quilt room at MCC Connections, the fabrics feature vivid colors and unique designs, making them ideal for quilting and craft projects. Steiner has already pieced two quilt tops using the materials. One is a queen sized contemporary design named “Charming Fractions” that Steiner adapted from a picture she found in a magazine. She used batiks and marble cottons in shades of deep green selected from the donated fabrics. Another completed quilt top she pieced from the Taj Mahal line of fabrics, which have subtle gold embossing throughout. They’ve named this one “Taj Mahal”. These 100% cotton fabrics are ideal to use with newer-style quilt patterns and designs or projects such as bags, pillows, etc.
As manager of the quilt room at MCC Connections, Steiner and her team members will make their own selections prior to the sale. These will be used in the quilt room. The quilt room team includes Carol Brubaker, Pat Falb and Laurel Horst. They design many of the quilts and knotted comforters, which are cut, pieced, quilted and finished at the store. The quilt room often uses donated fabrics and scraps for these projects. “We will keep some of the good blenders,” said Steiner. “It’s nice to have some yardage to complete designs we make using materials that come in from other donations.” Pieced quilts made at the store are auctioned off at the MCC Relief Sale held the first Saturday in August.
Steiner said the quilt room is used as a meeting place for a number of groups who use the space for monthly “quiltings.” There are four Amish groups and three additional church sewing groups who find this an ideal work space with good lighting and plenty of supplies on hand.
Just inside the front door of MCC Connections visitors to the store will find a display that features a few of the 700 bolts and partial bolts of fabric will go on salel beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 24. The store will stay open until 8 p.m. on Monday. Fabrics will be sold in even yardages at $4.00 per yard. The fabric sale will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will conclude on Thursday when the store will be open from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m., observing its regular Thursday evening hours. MCC Connections is located at 4080 Kidron Road. (Search Dalton, Ohio for the online map location). If there are questions, contact persons are Bill Ressler or Marleen Reinhardt.
