With summer reaching the mid-point in the middle of August, the merchants in Charm have a great idea on how to celebrate before the cooler days of fall and eventually winter take over. The Charm merchants will be holding their annual customer appreciation event, the Cool Down Sale, again this year. Shoppers can enjoy special sales at most of the stores in downtown Charm on Friday, August 12, 2011. “Most of the merchants are involved and are offering great sales from noon to 7 p.m.,” said Eric Slabach, marketing manager at Keim Lumber and part of the group organizing the Cool Down Sale. “Shoppers will find great bargains throughout the town. Refreshments will be offered to shoppers at each merchant location. There will be different snacks at different stores.” Keim Lumber is planning to offer watermelon as their refreshment while others will be offering hot dogs, popcorn or refreshing drinks. Starting at 7:30 p.m., weather permitting, an Ultralight airplane flown by a local pilot will fly over Charm Elementary School and drop candy for kids ages 4 to 7. Another candy drop is planned for 8 p.m. and will be for kids ages 8 to 12. The candy will be an assortment of different age appropriate treats. Slabach is scheduled to be the MC during the candy drops. Between the two times scheduled for the candy drops, there is a Wiffle Ball toss planned for the adults. Inside each of the 72 Wiffle Balls, recipients will find a coupon that they can use at one of the shops in Charm. Just a few of the merchants participating in the Mid-Summer Cool Down Sale include Keim Lumber, Carpenter’s Café located inside of Keim Lumber, Old Blacksmith Shop Gifts, Ole Mill Furniture, Charm Fabric and Clothing, Miller’s Dry Goods, Kidron Sports Center, Charm General Store, Highland Bikes, Erb’s Sports and Archery and Charm Harness among others. “Everyone is looking forward to the event. The day is just a great way for customers and merchants to come together and enjoy each others’ company.” Slabach said. “Judging from the last number of years, the day has been a really fun day for the customers and their families. And, everyone really enjoys the sales.”
